Our Branson portfolio offers an extensive array of assembly and joining technologies, including ultrasonic welding, laser welding, vibration welding, spin welding and thermal processing techniques. Through the support of global application engineers and our applications lab, Emerson continues to introduce Branson plastics joining innovations. For example, to support high-speed, high-volume production of the latest generation of medical devices and wearables, Emerson has introduced a new Branson ultrasonic welding platform, the GSX. This welder features an advanced, electromechanical actuation system that dynamically adjusts weld force precisely and rapidly, enabling medical manufacturers to reliably assemble plastic parts and execute product designs considered too small, delicate or difficult to weld before.
Emerson also supports medical product manufacturers with the Branson family of clean joining technologies, including laser welding, infrared welding and clean vibration welding. These joining technologies are specially designed to minimize or eliminate flash and particulates. Recently, Emerson also has advanced the practice of laser welding by jointly developing a spray-on coating that enables clean laser welding of clear-on-clear parts. For the first time, this innovation eliminates the need to use a combination of “light” (transmissive) and “dark” (absorptive) parts when laser welding. This exciting breakthrough opens the door to mass production of medical or IVD devices that demand optically clear flow paths.
