Specac, a global provider of laboratory analysis spectrometers has named plastic moulding company, Broanmain Plastics its new supplier of 2019.
The two companies have been working together over the last 12 months.
Broanmain has focused on the tool design as well as the development of a new Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) accessory for Specac’s spectrometry instrument. The instrument is made up of seven separate components, and Broanmain has already begun manufacturing these parts. The manufacturer claims to be producing and finishing more than 100 spectrometry ATR units each month.
These spectrometers are used within life science, pharmaceutical and healthcare laboratories all around the world to analyse samples, measure quality and maintain traceability.
Anthony Gomme, a strategic buyer at Specac commented on the collaboration: “In 2018 Specac was recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Award for International Trade. Being able to partner with a likeminded moulder that shares our engineering flair is important for both innovation and continuity.
"Right from the outset Broanmain has gone the extra mile. As well as helping up with the tooling design, we leaned on Jo and the team a lot for guidance on processing, tooling development and materials.”

Following this announcement, Broanmain is currently assisting Specac with a new project to create over-moulded disposable silicone chips to replace costly crystal and diamond specular reflectance pucks. These chips will aim to address any potential cross contamination which can occur when analysing solid and liquid samples. Specac anticipates the silicone pucks to be launched early next year.
