The company has recently received a 2018 Vermont Business Growth Award as well as two grants to help it train new employees.
The award recognises the Vermont business that have experienced the greatest growth within the past five years.
GW Plastics has experienced growth in almost every area of its business and has seen major expansions at its Vermont, Arizona, Texas, and China facilities. More so, the company’s 52% growth has been bolstered by the purchase of Irish mould-making company Avenue Mould Solutions.
Two grants of over $80,000 have also been awarded to GW Plastics by the Vermont Agency of Commerce & Community Development’s Department of Economic Development. The two Vermont Training Program (VT) grants have been given to GW Plastics for its educational initiatives.
A first grant of $63,750 will be used for GW Plastics Manufacturing Technology Leadership Program and will help the company train new employees in process engineering. The company will also use the grant to develop its employees’ technical performance and train them in manufacturing, business and leadership.
The Manufacturing Technology Leadership Program was founded in 2012 to address the skilled labour shortage and offers a four-year course to employees to support their carrer aspirations and the company’s technical needs.
A second grant of $16,594 will be used to teach high school students who are interested in advanced manufacturing. GW Plastics’ School of Tech program teaches students how advanced manufacturing fits into local and global economies through a semester-long, for-credit course. Students learn about the entire manufacturing process, including product design, material selection, mould design, mouldmaking, injection moulding, and quality.
“The primary charge of the Vermont Training Program is to support performance-based training efforts statewide,” said Vermont governor Phil Scott. “Dollars invested with this strong and growing manufacturer are an example of Vermont’s commitment to workforce development, which is so important to our work to strengthen our workforce and create more opportunity for all Vermonters.”
GW Plastics president and CEO, Brenan Riehl, said: “GW Plastics, an advanced contract manufacturer supplying to Fortune 500 companies around the world, depends on a skilled team to continue to meet our customers’ demanding requirements.
"These funds, awarded by the Vermont Training Program, will help develop our emerging leaders and technical staff in achieving their potential and propelling GW Plastics towards a strong future creating rewarding careers and jobs in Vermont.”
