Chemicals company Lubrizol is helping with the pandemic by making materials used in Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) as well as hand sanitiser and products to help treat patients who are fighting the virus.
The PPE is made from Lubrizol’s Estane Thermoplastic PolyUrethane (TPU), and the hand sanitiser is made from Carbopol polymer.
The Lubrizol Life Science Health team (LLS Health) is responsible for supplying materials, components, and services used in medical equipment and drug products designed for treating Covid-19 patients while they are in the hospital, at home, or in transit.
Helping prevent the spread of Covid-19
Products and devices containing Lubrizol-made materials and components are being used by healthcare professionals all around the world. LLS Health medical grade polymers and TPUs are key materials used to manufacture medical devices. For example, Isoplast TPU is moulded to create luer hubs and connectors for intravenous sets, while Pellethane, Tecoflex and Tecothane TPUs are extruded into intravenous and other vascular access catheters that soften in-body to enhance patient comfort.
LLS Health also manufactures essential ventilator components like silicone gaskets and valves which can be used in the assembly of hospital ventilators.
Going forward
The LLS Health leadership team is continuing to meet with companies in key industries and their development teams as it considers Covid-19-related patient needs.
The team are dedicated to providing high quality, innovative materials, components, and services to companies on the frontlines of improving patient care. The organisation’s mission is to improve patient outcomes and to help service medical device suppliers’ product development and manufacturing needs during this critical time.
