India’s first medical device manufacturing park will be built in Gujarat with the Indian government also planning a pharmaceutical park in the state
Fertiliser minister, Ananth Kumar, said: “As per honorable PM's vision of Make in India, we want to make India a self-sufficient in the field of medical devices. Our ministry is planning to set up a Medical Devices Park in Gujarat”
The park in Gujarat will have a manufacturing facility centre for SMEs and an ecosystem for medical device manufacturing aimed at import substitution as well as export opportunities.
Kumar also said that the medical device park will have 'Centre of Excellence' in which research for medical devices will be conducted.
Business Standard also said that the government is planning to expand the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology campus at Sanand after receiving additional land from the state.
In addition to the parks the Indian government is also implementing a new pricing strategy for imports and revising medical device regulations in favour of production within the country.
