Olympus has acquired Arc Medical Design from Norgine and will obtain full rights to its range of innovative products as per the agreement.
Through completing this acquisition, Olympus will assume worldwide responsibility for design, manufacturing, distribution, and business strategy for the Endocuff product portfolio.
Mike Callaghan, vice president/general manager of Global GI EndoTherapy Business Unit at Olympus, commented: “It is a great pleasure to announce our acquisition of Arc Medical Design.
“Endocuff Vision has been a pivotal tool in our EndoTherapy portfolio, and we are delighted to expand our product portfolio to include the entire Endocuff family.”
The portfolio’s flagship product, Endocuff Vision, is a device attached to the distal end of a colonoscope, which is designed to maintain and maximise visibility during a colonoscopy. Endocuff Vision enables manipulation of large folds, as well as the ability to anchor the scope tip during loop reduction and stabilise it during complex procedures, such as polypectomys.
Improved detection rates and more accurate diagnosis could help reduce the number of deaths from preventable digestive cancers, such as ColoRectal Cancer (CRC), which is a leading cause of cancer death for both men and women. Screening for the indication is one of the powerful methods to target the disease, and colonoscopy is considered a beneficial method for detection and removal of hard-to-find adenomatous polyps.
Callaghan concluded: “The acquisition of Arc Medical Design not only further enhances our expertise in medical technology and strengthens our global leadership in endoscopy, it also serves our purpose to make people’s lives healthier, safer and more fulfilling.”
